While in a Pinterest wormhole recently I came across the term hygge, (hoo-gah) which is defined as "a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture)."
I thought that quality is so appropriate right now, especially when we're all locked inside our homes due to the pandemic and cold weather. It reminded me that contentment can be achieved even from the simplest of things. So I started reflecting on what brings me that feeling, or quality, of hygge. Here's a list that I found:
-cozy slippers
-a warm place by the fire
-having a big warm cup of coffee (or tea) in your hands
-reading a good book with said warm drink in your hands
-adorable and sweet four legged friends
-chilling out listening to vinyl records
-drinking wine while chilling to said records
-cookies!
-house plants everywhere
-candles that make my living room feel like a crisp balsam forest
-writing a note to a friend
-and the list could go on and on...
So in order to share some hygge in my own way I began painting what hygge represents to me. Also, in order to help you spread some hygge yourself, I turned these paintings into a design for a post card. Who among us doesn't smile when they receive a piece of hand written mail from a friend? I’ve also created a charming sticker inspired by hakuna-ma-ta-ta. I’ll be you can’t get that song out of your head for the next 3 days. You’re welcome and sorry.
